Trip Expectations
Chaperones
If you are part of a school that is attending, school policy on field trips supersedes our policy: if you are following what your school has implemented, it is in line with our expectations.
Please know the whereabouts of your students at all times. If you see something that could negatively affect the event, please bring it to the attention of the staff. See it, say it
Students
Be safe and responsible.
Respect the space. Eat and drink in designated areas. Use designated restrooms and remain in designated areas.
Don’t litter (if you are caught littering, be ready to do some cleaning!)
No rough housing, foul language, or inappropriate behavior.
Actively participate.
Friday night is a time to get to know other teams – be nice and make friends!
All staff, chaperones and volunteers are important to the success of our trips, and they are in charge\! Please show them courtesy and respect.
Your chaperones should know where you are at all times-make sure to communicate with them.
Curfew times, as set forth by your chaperone, will be adhered to by all students. While staying in hotel rooms, it is recommended that students be in their own rooms and quiet by 10:00 P.M. No students are to leave their rooms after this time except in the case of an emergency and then they must immediately contact a chaperone. Chaperones will check rooms periodically.
Wear your YPP T-shirt on Saturday (you will receive it at the hotel).
If a school policy/YPP policy is broken, offenders will be dismissed at their own expense and will not be allowed to continue participation. Depending on the severity of the offense, future participation may be in question..
This is a drug-free environment, act accordingly. Use of drugs or alcohol on this trip will result in the individuals involved being sent home at their own expense and could lead to further punitive action.
Roles & Responsibilities

Additionally, you are responsible for making sure your MLWs know which activity they will work on, who their partners are, and what materials they need.
All MLWs
During the Math Playground you are required to be working a tabletop activity or supporting the room (welcoming community members, checking in with teams to ensure that they have what they need, etc.)
MLW coaches
During the tournament you are required to be with your team.
MLW non-coaches

Visitor Tips
- When the fog rolls in the temperature can change dramatically, so always dress in layers.
- Avoid walking while holding your phone or placing it on restaurant table tops where it can easily be snatched.
- Buy a rechargeable Clipper Card or a multi-day MUNI Pass at any Walgreens or partner retailer to easily ride the cable cars, streetcars, buses and BART. It will save you time and money because drivers don’t have the ability to give change.
- Park Smart! Do not leave valuables in your vehicle or other items in plain sight. Instead, leave your luggage and other items at your hotel.
- Take a reusable bag with you when you go shopping or souvenir hunting to avoid a 10 cent charge per bag.
- Read all the signs at a parking lot before paying. Parking lots that are self-service will post if there is “No Attendant on Duty.”
